Manuscript Evaluation

If you’ve written a book and need a neutral source of honest and constructive feedback, then a manuscript evaluation may be for you.

During a manuscript evaluation, I read your work carefully, taking notes along the way. I first consider the manuscript as a whole: is it achieving what you intended? I write a letter detailing the strengths and weaknesses of  the manuscript as a whole. For fiction, this includes plot, conflict and tension, character development, dialogue, pacing, point of view, voice and tone, and consistency. For nonfiction, this includes thesis, supporting evidence, structure, and readability. For each problem I highlight, I include specific suggestions for how to remedy the problem. If you are concerned about specific issues, you can highlight those issues, and I will be happy to pay careful attention to them.

I specialize in works relevant to Muslim readers: either because they have Muslim representation or because they are written with a Muslim audience in mind.

PROCESS
  1. Send me a message using the contact form. I’ll send you a short questionnaire to fill out. It will help me learn about your book and your goals for your book. This is important because I can only help you get where you’re going if I know where that is. 🙂 Return the questionnaire to me along with the manuscript.
  2. I’ll send you a contract.
  3. Sign and return the contract.
  4. Receive your manuscript evaluation and invoice by the deadline listed on the contract! Your manuscript evaluation will be in the form of a Microsoft Word document. Your invoice will list a variety of payment methods (including PayPal, Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, and check), and I ask that payments be completed within two weeks.
RATES

Picture Books (up to 1,500 words) – $100

Chapter Books (up to 12,000 words) – $150

Middle Grade Books (up to 25,000 words) – $200

YA Books (up to 50,000 words) – $350

Adult Fiction (up to 75,000 words) – $500

Adult Nonfiction (up to 75,000 words) – $500

* These rates may vary to accommodate fees for international payments.

** I do not edit poetry (including picture books written in rhyming poetry), short stories, memoirs, or graphic novels.
