Proofreading is a service for publishers and self-publishers. During a proofread, an editor carefully checks each letter, punctuation mark, special character, and space. The goal is to catch errors that were missed by the copyeditor or introduced during typesetting. By the time a manuscript is proofread, it has usually gone through several rounds of editing. Proofreading is done on a PDF file.
If your project has already been copyedited and typeset and requires a final read-through before going to the printer, then you’re ready for proofreading.
PROCESS
- Send me a message using the contact form. I’ll send you a short questionnaire to fill out. Return the questionnaire to me along with the manuscript (please send a PDF file).
- I’ll send you a free sample edit and a quote in the form of a contract.
- Sign and return the contract.
- Receive your editing and invoice by the deadline listed on the contract! Your edited file will use the Comments feature. Your invoice will list a variety of payment methods (including PayPal, Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, and check), and I ask that payments be completed within two weeks.
RATES
Every project is different, and your quote will depend on the number of words in your project and the level of editing needed. My rates fall within these US industry standards for editors.
IMPORTANT
Please note that I do not work with poetry (including picture books written in rhyming poetry), short stories, memoirs, or graphic novels.
